6th Grade Takes Top Honors At State Showcase

posted May 14, 2012, 7:53 AM by Rick Barter

A dozen 6th grade students traveled to the State House in Augusta on Friday to present the results of their Project Citizen projects at a state showcase. Project Citizen is a civic education project with a goal of developing students' commitment to active citizenship and governance. The students created two projects, both dealing with issues of wellness in the school. The projects consist of four sections; selecting a problem, investigating alternative solutions, proposing a solution, and preparing an action plan for making their proposal a reality.

The project titled Be Active, Be Successful was selected from among all entries from around the state to be sent to Washington D.C. to represent Maine in a national showcase for Project Citizen.

Congratulations to all 6th graders for the excellent work they did on these projects and in particular to the winning presenting team of MacKenzie, Sara, Gloria, Emerson, and Athena.
