With the help of student, staff and parent volunteers, the Library Aide and Advisory Committee raised nearly $800 for its program this year. The LAAC is comprised of almost 20 young people this year, who volunteer about 45 minutes a week in service to their school. Tasks include running the circulation desk, shelving books, cleaning computer screens, keyboards and tables, and delivering book and messages out into the school.
The money raised goes toward the annual LAAC event of buying books in a bookstore, and celebrating with a nice lunch. Last year, for the first year, the event took place in Bar Harbor. With Borders closed, the LAAC decided to support local business instead of going to Bangor. The group had brunch out at Two Cats and shopped for books at Sherman's Bookstore. This year, our plans will be determined closer to the end of the year, but we hope to stay local to do our business again.
