Promising Young Writer

Congratulations to Hannah, who has been recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English as a 2012 Promising Young Writer. Nationwide, only 85 eighth graders were selected for this honor by the NCTE.

This past January, Hannah submitted two pieces of writing to the contest: a poetry collection that she considered her best writing and a short story, The Wanderers, that addressed this year's theme.

2012 Theme: “Flash Back, Forge Ahead”
As writers, we have the freedom to play with time—flashing
back in history or in our own memories, or forging ahead into a
future that we imagine, hope for, or perhaps even fear. Write an
original piece in which the past and/or future play an important
role.
