Solar Car Club, for students in grades 5 to 8, is starting next week, the first week in March. Students work in teams to design and build a solar powered car that will complete a race in the fastest time.
The school will lend out solar panels, motor, wheels, and some building materials,
but students will be expected to bring in and use scrounged or recycled stuff for car bodies. Cars must carry an empty soda can, and meet required specifications.
The club happens during learning lab. 5th graders will meet in Mr. Boardman's room on Wednesdays and 6th graders will meet in Mr. GR's room on Fridays. 7th and 8th graders can work independently or arrange to meet on Wednesday or Friday.
To join, get a permission slip from Mr. Boardman, Mr. GR, or Ms. Winne.
The school race will be Monday, May 12. The top five school cars will be eligible to travel with their parents to compete
at the State Championships, Saturday, June 7 in Owls Head.
