Welcome back.  We hope you enjoyed February break.

8th Grade Fundraising

Conners-Emerson 8th grade students are working hard to raise money for their upcoming graduation celebration and class trip this spring.  On Sunday, March 10, 2013, they will host a Movie/Silent Auction Extravaganza!!!  at Reel Pizza in Bar Harbor.

There will be lots going on for everyone! Doors open at 1:30pm. The funny, animated movie "Ice Age - Continental Drift" will show at 2pm in one auditorium. The concession stand will be open.  Movie admission is $5.00, but admission is otherwise free. Throughout the afternoon, the other auditorium will be busy with ongoing Bingo with prizes and a huge silent auction.  Bid on quality items including gift certificates from local restaurants and businesses; various nature, boat and plane tours; handknit scarves by the 8th graders and SO MUCH MORE!  Click on  this link:

(Raffle tickets are also available now from any C-E 8th grader).  The  winner of the iPad raffle will be drawn and announced, and auction items distributed, at 3:30 pm.  Please join the C-E class of 2013 for an afternoon of fun.  All proceeds go towards the Conners Emerson 8th grade graduation and class trip.



MUSICAL NOTES

JAZZ BAND

The Emerson Jazz Band will be heading (via yellow school bus) to Center Drive School in Orington, ME for the District Jazz Festival today.

Band members have all received information packets on the event to share with parents, but here is more info that may be good to have handy:

-The Emerson Jazz Band is scheduled to play at 4:30, but consider that time to be "flexible" and arrive early to see the performance.
-There will be concession food available (hot dogs, pizza, etc.) with most items under $3.00.
-Any volunteer parental help offered to help get the band on/off the stage will be greatly appreciated.

SHOW CHOIR

Students prepare for their recent performance.

The Conners Emerson Show Stoppers received a #1 rating for their performance at the District Festival at Sumner High School. Our students dazzled the audience with selections from Annie Get Your GunCongratulations to our singers, dancers, and pit orchestra!

Upcoming Performance Information:

Wednesday, April 3 @ 10:40: the Show Stoppers and the MDIHS show choir will perform in the Emerson gym for grades 5-8. 

Thursday, April 4 @ 6:00 pm is the Show Choir Extravaganza in the MDIHS gym featuring the show choirs from Trenton, Pemetic, Conners Emerson, and MDIHS. 

Friday, April 5: State Vocal Jazz Competition (for show choirs) is scheduled for  at Ellsworth High School. Times to be announced.  


PTSA

The Annual Science Fair for grades K-4 will be held on Wednesday, March 27th from 6-7 PM in the Emerson cafeteria.


KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION 

Kindergarten registration will be on March 13th and 14th for parents to either drop off or complete registration paperwork for Kindergarten Screening in April.  You do not need to make an appointment and can come by anytime between 8-2 PM.  When we receive all of the necessary paperwork, we will then have you sign up for a date and time when you will bring your child for Kindergarten Screening.  We look forward to meeting your son/daughter in April!  




BE YOURSELF WEEK



Individuality.  We all have it, and yet it's something that is very much our own.  Why then are we often hesitant to share it and show it?  

The Emerson Civil Rights Teams in celebrating ourselves during "Be Yourself Week,"  Monday March 4- Friday, March 8, and encouraging students in Grades 5-8 to participate. We will be celebrating ourselves in a different way each day with stickers and pins that celebrate our interests:


Monday: Sports or Hobbies
Tuesday:  Creativity
Wednesday:  Favorite Color
Thursday: Somone you admire or a role model
Friday:  Fashion Friday


The culmination of this event will be an assembly on  Tuesday, March 12 from 10:30-11:30 with Brandon Baldwin from the Maine Civil Rights Team Project.

SOLAR CARS

Solar Car Club is starting, with activity periods during Learning Lab on Thursdays in Mr. GR's room and on Fridays in Mr. Boardman's room.


Student teams from grades 5 through 8 are eligible to participate.  Just fill out and return one of the following registration forms. See or email Ms. Winne at swinne@mdirss.org if you have any questions.

Grade 5 Solar Car sign-up - return to Mr. Boardman
Grade 6 Solar Car sign up - return to Mr. GR
Grades 7/8 Solar Car sign-up - return to Ms. Winne

Our school race is currently scheduled for May 10, rain or shine.  The top five cars will be eligible to go on to states on Saturday, June 1 in Owl's Head.
