Parent Forum Information
The Conners-Emerson School along with other schools in AOS #91, are partnering with Mount Desert Elementary School to offer parent forums.
Mt. Desert Elementary School is proud to announce that it will be sponsoring a series of parent forums throughout the school year that will deal with many of the issues that parents face, raising children in today's world. These forums are made possible by a grant from the Stroud Fund of the Parish of St. Mary and St. Jude along with the support of other schools in the district and is open to ALL parents in the Mt. Desert Island region. Each forum will take place on the first Tuesday of each month (with the exception of January) and will be held in the forum at Mt. Desert Elementary School in Northeast Harbor. With each forum we will offer a social time from 5:30-6 that will include pizza and refreshments at no cost, followed by our presentation from 6-7 with a 30 minute question and answer period that will end at 7:30 sharp. Child care will be provided as well at no cost for the time of the presentation itself. We are very excited about the quality of these forums and hope that you will make the first Tuesday of each month a regular part of your schedule!
Our first forum is scheduled for Tuesday October 4th and will be focusing on the topic of building resiliency within our children. Our presenters for the evening will be Milja Brecher-DeMuro and Kip Young from the Acadia Family Center. Resilience is defined as the process of bouncing back and fully recovering in the face of change and stressful situations. Being resilient doesn't mean a person won't experience difficulty or stress. However, resilient individuals respond to stress in ways that help them not only recover, but grow and thrive. Like the tree whose branches bend and sway in a storm rather than crack under pressure, we have the power to remain flexible and strong amid life's challenges... to be resilient!
On behalf of the Parent Forum Committee, we hope that you can join is on the evening of the 4th of October and for the many months that will follow. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me - Scott McFarland 276-3348 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org - looking forward to seeing you in October!!
